In-Line Stroller Safety is About More than Seat Belts
While it is assumed that all products designed for children and babies are safety tested and quality assured, there are many safety tests that manufacturers perform that go well beyond what is required by regulators. The Phil and Teds explorer is created by one such manufacturer. In double stroller reviews, parents often talk about the seat belt systems in strollers or how to safely attach a car seat. Double strollers reviews are also known to include weight limitation information as well which directly relates to safety, but there is so much more.
The Phil and Teds Explorer goes through many more safety checks than is required. Although all designs must meet certain minimum safety standards, this double stroller takes it a few steps further. To start with, all of the materials used on the stroller are tested for toxicity, flammability and durability.
The toxicity testing is meant to ensure that when little hands are on the materials and in the mouths of children that no toxic material could possibly be ingested or absorbed through the skin. This is extremely important when considering manufactured items like strollers that are specifically meant for children who are known to be at an age where they taste-test everything.
Like all things related to children, being non-flammable or flame-resistant is highly desirable. Babies especially are the least likely to be able to move away from flames or fire themselves and so must be provided with extra protection until someone else can assist them.
The durability tests are the most extensive though. Besides weight testing to ensure the double stroller can safely transport babies and children without collapsing, durability testing ensures that strollers can withstand the rigors of use. Testing includes being driven across rough terrain with heavy loads to simulate the use that some strollers experience. Weights are also dropped onto the seats to ensure that they can handle the constant use they will get from children constantly entering and exiting the stroller, not to mention the luggage that parents also put on the stroller.
One final important area of testing for parents is that done to the labeling and instructions. Testing of these items may seem trivial until a parent is trying to adjust a seat to fit a newborn while the baby is crying. Testing to ensure that all of the directions are written in the clearest language with the most accurate illustrations can make a huge difference to the ease of using the stroller, but more importantly to its safety. This is why all labeling is also closely tested to ensure it is accurate and easy to understand. Safety testing is about much more than seat belts and brake systems, it’s about protecting the riders at all times.
